About Shakti

Shakti is defined as the primordial creative force in the universe – an energy that empowers, transforms and enables a life of meaning, growth and purpose.

By choosing Shakti as the name for my independent venture, I am able to honour and acknowledge the Eastern philosophy and culture that have influenced both the way I live, and the way I work. The word Shakti encapsulates the power and the potential that facilitation, training and coaching offers.

I believe that facilitation, training and coaching, when done well, echo the three creative powers of Shakti – it Illuminates, motivates and empowers. Guided by this conviction, I coach for performance and meaning, working with teams and individuals to become more effective in what they do, and also to find satisfaction and fulfilment in the doing.

I am not so arrogant that I think I have answers especially not YOUR answers. Instead, I believe I can walk alongside you, asking questions, challenging your perspectives and customising frameworks and solutions for you, your business and your team.

About me

I believe that every person I meet, and every experience I have, holds a fragment of truth, a piece of the cosmic puzzle. The satisfaction of discovering these truths, and slotting them into place, is one of the great motivating forces in my life.

In this way, I’ve combined the knowledge and skills I gathered while working for a number of small to medium business enterprises to create a meaningful offering that I can share through facilitation, training and coaching.

Some of the puzzle pieces that make up my work experience are:

  • managing and leading teams and individuals from a range of roles and disciplines, including account managers, software developers and creatives,
  • implementing Agile and working as a Scrum Master,
  • project managing national and international mobile and digital projects,
  • contributing as a member of a management steering committee,
  • designing and implementing training and development strategies.

I’ve also had the opportunity to work with, and learn from, a variety of stakeholders. These include international super brands, like Cadbury and Caltex, South African legends, like OMO and Vodacom and major donors, including UNICEF and government departments across the African continent.

My relevant formal qualifications include:

  • Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Psychology and International Politics (UNISA)
  • Certificate in Coaching Practice (University of Stellenbosch Business School), where I achieved a distinction, came top of my class and won the ‘Best Student’ award.
  • Facilitator Techniques (Growing Agile)
  • Certified Scrum Master and Advanced Scrum Master courses (Scrum Sense CC and Growing Agile)
  • Programme in Project Management (University of Stellenbosch Business School)
  • Train the Trainer (Learnability)

Perhaps most relevant of all is my belief in the value of learning, whether through facilitation, training and coaching. Learning, achievement and fulfilment are inseparable and we have to constantly and consciously learn, and sometimes even unlearn, to reach our full potential.
