Therapy and counseling often aim to resolve trauma and/or a psychological problem. Generally, the only stakeholders involved are the client/individual and the therapist. The agenda and outcomes are discussed and agreed by the client/individual and the therapist. The goal is to help move past the trauma or to understand the root cause of the long-standing problem.
In comparison, coaching does not deal with any trauma and/or psychological problems and often there are multiple stakeholders involved in the process e.g. team member, organisation, coach. The agenda is set, in collaboration, by the team member, organisation and coach. Often, the goal of the coaching engagement is to facilitate personal and professional growth and development.
